"E-tools: Tool for Easier and More Effective Investigation"

Technology has indeed come to its way in the world of law enforcement. In this era, things get easier, faster, and more efficient with the help of it. Almost everything is now processed with computer, internet, cellphone, or any gadget. Gone are the days that you have to wait for months just to send and receive a message, file, or even package. Because now, with just a click away, you can get the information you want.

The Philippine National Police has adopted electronic or digital tools in the world of investigation. Through the years, innovation has been continuous in developing technology that can improve police work. E-projects such as e-warrant, e-rogue, and e-subpoena contribute a lot to faster and more successful investigations wherein data are electronically uploaded on a system which provides the police an access to updated and reliable information of criminals in the country.

I was able to get a clearer picture of how technology advances help the police officers. Inside the Sta Rosa City Police Station is a small four-cornered room that holds tantamount information of the PNP organization. That room is the Warrant and Subpoena section. There, I saw how these e-tools work. NUP Aileen Tarronas, Crime Registrar and Warrant Clerk of Sta Rosa CPS, showed to me how police officers utilize these tools.

For e-Warrant, it is a system where all warrants of arrest issued by the court are electronically uploaded. It eliminates the hassle and slow delivery of warrants from mail system to a particular police station. Even if a case is filed anywhere in the country, the warrant can be accessed by any police officer from PNP. Once received, it can be printed out and served. That’s how it helps in the arrest of criminals.[1]

For e-Rogue Gallery System, all information about suspects or arrested persons can be instantly accessed by the cops. Case information, mug shots, and personal information can be viewed on this system.[2]

For e-Subpoena, it is a system that speeds up the transmittal of court subpoenas and notices to the police. Accordingly, the system particularly addresses police officers who are witnesses in criminal cases in responding to summons issued by the court. Before this was created, problems like unreceived subpoenas that leads to the inability to attend hearings occurred. Now, the delivery of the subpoena is timely that gives a solution to the said problem.[3]

Again, I was put in awe when I realized how technological advances are utilized in the police investigation. Indeed, it saves time and makes the investigation more efficient and reliable to every police station.
