by doing the things he fears to do..."

Media relations have been a huge help to law enforcement. It serves as a good platform in informing the public of the PNP’s mission, policies, and practices in a positive, consistent, and credible manner. Police station having a regular radio segment is a good idea wherein information dissemination has been made easier and more effective. Accomplishments, best practices, and problems in the community are discussed by the police officers through radio.

During our Cadet Attachment Program, I was invited by our local radio station 89.7 Radio Binian as their special guest. At that time, we proudly presented ourselves as Cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy as we conducted an interactive discussion about the interesting facts in the Academy. The topics we discussed were all about cadetship program and how the Academy can instill patriotism, discipline, and competence to every youth in the country.

During the interview, it was a great opportunity as a Cadet to engage in this kind of active interaction. Through this, I was able to share my insights, thoughts, ideas, and experiences from my beloved Academy. This medium became an opportunity for me to promote PNPA. I shared with them my true-to-life experiences that could probably inspire every citizen, especially the youth to join the long maroon line and become the future public safety leaders.

In addition, the radio guesting became an avenue for us to inform the public about the qualifications, requirements, and procedures in applying to PNPA. As the online application has just opened, we encouraged the people who will aspire to be one of the chosen few to be mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and even spiritually prepared for joining this institution is not a joke. In all these aspects, one must be ready.

Indeed, this experience made me realize why media relations is important in law enforcement. Hence, let us support the police in having this kind of activity because it is not only for publicity but it will strengthen and develop the communication and relationship between the police and the community.
